Makita Cordless Drill w/ Battery & Charger, Faulty?

Makita Cordless Drill w/ Battery & Charger.
ID label is missing off drill so model.number is unknown.
Includes one older style Ni-Cd type 18V, 2.0Ah battery model 1822.
Includes battery charger model DC1801.
NOTE that we attempted to charge the one battery, the charger powers on and appears to operate but after a few hours of charging we tested the battery on the drill and the drill does not operate. Unknown if the fault is with the battery or the drill.
